After multiple rounds of voting, RWC is proud to announce that it won Best Law Firm (general law) and Chaz Remus won Best Attorney in the Frederick News-Post’s 2023 Best-of-the-Best Contest. This is RWC’s first time being named Best Law Firm, and Chaz’s third-straight being named Best Attorney.

RWC and Chaz truly appreciate the recognition and are beyond grateful to their clients, colleagues, friends, family, and the entire Frederick community for the overwhelming support. RWC and Chaz would further like to recognize and congratulate all of the nominees, finalists, and winners across the myriad categories in the Frederick News-Posts’ Best-of-the-best Contest. RWC is excited to announce that in October of 2023, it expanded its practice through the hiring of its second associate attorney, Bridget A. Nolen. Prior to joining the firm, Bridget was a clerk with the Appellate Court of Maryland where she assisted in all aspects of appellate matters, from reviewing the underlying records, to performing research, to drafting opinions.

Since joining the firm, Bridget has assisted in representing both individual and corporate clients through various contract, employment, business, and real estate disputes. Shawn, Jake, and Chaz are excited to have Bridget join the RWC team, and they look forward to watching her grow as a new associate.

RWC officially opened its doors on March 1, 2022 and was proud to celebrate its first anniversary of business earlier this spring! The entire Frederick Community, including the firm’s many new downtown neighbors, have provided tremendous support for Shawn, Jake, and Chaz over the last year. The firm started with a loyal base of long-term clients and has had the pleasure over the last year of working with several new individual and corporate clients locally and beyond. 

Throughout the past year, the firm has successfully represented clients in complex litigation in Maryland state courts located in Frederick, Montgomery, Washington, and Carroll Counties, as well as in federal court in the U.S. District Court of Maryland. Shawn, Jake, and Chaz have further provided general counsel services to several businesses ranging from the small “mom-and-pop shops,” to other large national corporations.   

In October of 2022, the firm expanded its office at 18 West Church Street to include both the first and second floors, and it also welcomed its first associate attorney to join the RWC team.

Shawn, Jake, and Chaz would like to sincerely thank their family and friends, the local community, and, importantly, the firm’s loyal clients for their continued support over the last year, and they are committed to reciprocating that same high level of support to their family, friends, community, and clients in the years ahead.  

RWC is proud to announce that in October of 2022, just seven months after opening its doors, it hired its first associate attorney, Andrew M. Kiphart. Since joining the firm, Andrew has assisted in representing both individual and corporate clients through an array of business, property, zoning, and estate disputes, including, in one instance, helping to lead the firm’s clients to a successful settlement in a contested family estate matter.

Andrew graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law in 2017 and was previously an associate attorney for approximately four years at a smaller general practice firm in Carroll County, Maryland (where he also interned and clerked for approximately five years prior to graduating law school). Despite now working in Frederick, Andrew has continued to represent several Carroll County residents and businesses, further reinforcing the firm’s broad presence throughout Maryland.  

Shawn, Jake, and Chaz are proud to have Andrew as part of the RWC team, and they look forward to him serving the firm’s clients for years to come.

Super Lawyers® magazine has recognized all three of RWC’s founding partners in its 2023 edition: Shawn and Jake were each named 2023 Super Lawyers in the state of Maryland, while Chaz was named as a 2023 Rising Star Attorney. This year marked Jake’s ninth selection by Super Lawyers®; his third straight year with the Super Lawyer distinction coming on the heels of his being designated a Rising Star for six consecutive years. Chaz has been chosen as a Rising Star for five straight years, during which time he has also been voted as Frederick’s “Best Attorney” by readers of the Frederick News-Post in consecutive years. With his first designation as a 2023 Super Lawyer, Shawn joined Jake and Chaz among the few Maryland practitioners singled out for recognition by the annual publication. Each year Super Lawyers® publishes its directory of lawyers “to create a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys that can be used as a resource for attorneys and consumers searching for legal counsel.”

According to its website, Super Lawyers® “selects attorneys using a patented selection process that involves peer nominations, independent research, and peer evaluations.” Attorneys selected as Super Lawyers “have obtained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement” that is reserved for only the top 5% of lawyers in each state. Rising Stars are generally up-and-coming attorneys in a state who are “40 years old or younger or in practice for 10 years or less.” Rising Star recognition is reserved for no more than 2.5% of all lawyers practicing in each state.
